BizTalk Server 2006 R3 Announced!

Apologies…this post has been in my drafts and i assumed it was published..Well, without any more delay…please find enclosed the announcement on BizTalk Server 2006 R3!

Steven Martin who is the Connected Systems Program Manager has announced the next revision of BizTalk Server named as “R3”. This new version of BizTalk Server is aligned in the line of BizTalk Server vNext or OSLO. The following are the new features available in this code base (which explains why it is not called BizTalk Server 2008/9).

  • Provides Compatibility with Visual Studio 2008,SQL Server 2008 and Windows Server 2008.
  • New web service registry capabilities with support for UDDI (Universal Description Discovery and Integration) version 3.0 – It now supports versions of services  which was not available in UDDI 2.0
  • Enhanced service enablement of applications (through new and enhanced adapters for LOB applications, databases, and legacy/host systems) – We might see a new WCF SQL Adapter..??
  • Enhanced service enablement of “edge” devices through BizTalk RFID Mobile
  • Enhanced interoperability and connectivity support for B2B protocols (like SWIFT, EDI, etc)
  • SOA patterns and best practices guidance to assist our customer’s implementations
  • Provides migration of registry functionality which is actually a big step towards what Oslo will bring, where the process server is tightly tied to the registry (now) or repository (later, in Oslo)
  • Tight integration with Internet Service Bus aka BizTalk Services
  • Well, things are looking better for BizTalk and i doubt if it ever be phased out.
